Overview

Welcome to Santa’s workshop - the busiest place in the North Pole, bursting with hard-working elves, jingling bells, restless reindeer and Christmas magic. Toys are being made, the sleigh prepared… and nothing could possibly go wrong. Or could it? In a workshop this busy, things don’t always go to plan. One particular elf always seems to get things wrong, forgetting instructions, losing focus and creating more chaos than anyone else. But the workshop soon discovers that sometimes the biggest ideas come from unexpected places. At the heart of the story is a reminder that everyone has something important to offer, even when it may not seem that way at first. Packed with lively songs, humour and a heartwarming finale, this musical celebrates teamwork, quick thinking and the magic of Christmas. We hope you have fun rehearsing and performing it.

Synopsis

Christmas preparations are in full swing in Santa’s workshop, with elves tapping, stacking and packing. There’s a great deal to do - and not much time to do it (THREE DAYS TO GO).

Amid the excitement, the elves realise that Elfie, a well-meaning, big-hearted elf whose brilliant ideas don’t always go quite to plan, is missing. He soon appears wrapped from head to toe in festive paper, having experimented to see if he could wrap himself up! (THERE’S NOBODY ELSE LIKE ELFIE)

Elfie’s enthusiasm continues when he discovers the glitter and tosses it joyfully into the air… just as Santa walks in. Unfortunately, the sparkle goes straight up Santa’s nose. After a spectacular sneezing fit, Santa declares this the final straw and suspends Elfie from workshop duties until next year. Elfie’s grin disappears - a whole year feels like forever when Christmas is your favourite thing (NEXT YEAR’S SO FAR AWAY).

Before anyone can catch their breath, the reindeer arrive to collect the sleigh bells – but the bells have vanished. Without them, the reindeer cannot fly. Santa huffs, puffs and paces as the workshop fills with worry (DEAR OLD SANTA).

Elfie hears the news and, despite being suspended, decides he still wants to help. The bells were last seen on the chocolate snowballs table. The elves suspect whoever was there last must have moved them, and Elfie mentions that Rudolph is very fond of chocolate snowballs. A frantic and increasingly chaotic search for Rudolph begins (HULLABALOO).

While elves dash and reindeer clatter about, Elfie finds the noise overwhelming and steps outside into the quiet. Away from the commotion, he has a simple but clever idea – instead of rushing, he will listen. Sure enough, he hears a faint jingle. Elfie discovers Rudolph in the sleigh shed, happily munching chocolate snowballs, with the missing sleigh bells accidentally hooked onto his antlers – when Rudolph bent down for another snuffle, the bells latched on without him noticing. Back in the workshop, Santa reluctantly announces that Christmas will have to be cancelled (WE’LL HAVE TO CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF).

But just in time, Elfie and Rudolph return with the bells. Relief turns to celebration, Christmas is saved, and Elfie is warmly thanked for his clever thinking. As a special reward, he is invited to ride in the sleigh with Santa on Christmas Eve.

The sleigh takes off, the bells ring brightly through the winter sky, and the story ends in celebration with smiles all round (THE SOUND OF CHRISTMAS).
