Overview
The stable in Bethlehem is just a very ordinary stable and it is very small. Not many people know that it is there except the stable girl, the innkeeper and his wife, and the animals that live inside. Then, one day, when the stable girl arrives there to do her chores, she is carrying with her much more hay and straw than usual. Who could it be for? And why is she also carrying blankets? When the innkeeper arrives with two strangers who want to sleep in the tiny stable, the animals are even more puzzled. Their questions are answered, though, when the baby Jesus is born and soon they are joined by shepherds, kings and angels, and also the innkeeper and his wife. Will everyone be able to squeeze into the little stable? Snuggled up tight, they celebrate together the wonderful birth of the baby Jesus.
Synopsis
The whole cast welcomes the audience to Bethlehem (HELLO EVERYBODY).
The stable girl is introduced and, as she sweeps the stable, we get to know which animals live there (THERE’S A LITTLE STABLE).
The stable girl arrives again at the stable, but this time she carries extra straw, hay and some blankets. She won’t say who the extra provisions are for and the animals are surprised that, when she finishes her work, she sits down in the straw with them. When she tells the animals that she is waiting, they wonder what for, but again, she keeps her secret (WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?).
The innkeeper brings a lady and a man to the stable. They announce that they are going to sleep there for the night … and so the mystery deepens. Snuggled up together, the animals and stable girl fall asleep, and as they sleep, the baby Jesus is born. A big star floats to the stable and rests overhead. When the animals wake up, they are amazed to see the baby and realise what they had been waiting for (HELLO BABY JESUS – one verse only).
Shepherds, kings and angels arrive at the stable door and everyone squeezes in together to see the baby (HELLO BABY JESUS – all verses).
The kings give precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, then the innkeeper and his wife join everyone at the stable. Everyone snuggles up tight as they watch the baby through the night (SNUGGLE UP).
Everyone shares the wonder of the baby’s birth and can see that this is a very special night indeed (ON THIS SPECIAL NIGHT).
