Overview
For many young children, taking part in the nativity story will be the first time they have performed on stage. As such, it is really important to try to give them a positive and enjoyable experience. Part of that is choosing the right nativity, and with “Twinkle – The Little Star” you have chosen, we hope, a real winner. Full of engaging songs and with all the traditional characters (from stars and angels to shepherds and wise men), this nativity musical is a refreshing take on the traditional story, but one which keeps that story firmly at its heart. We hope they – and you – enjoy the process of bringing it to life on stage.
Synopsis
High up in the night sky lives Twinkle, the twinkliest and cheekiest little star in the whole galaxy. While the other stars work hard each night, Twinkle is always disappearing and playing tricks. When she goes missing yet again, the other stars wonder where she could be (OH, TWINKLE).
Then exciting news arrives: a special baby, Jesus the Son of God, is about to be born in Bethlehem. Big Star is assigned to guide three kings to the stable where the baby will be born. But Twinkle has been too mischievous, and Big Star decides she cannot help. Instead, she is sent to bed while the other stars watch for the kings.
Meanwhile, the three kings are riding across the desert on their camels, searching for the great star that will guide them. They ride on through the night, but the star they need is nowhere to be seen (LOOKING FOR A STAR).
The little stars keep watch from the sky, but they can’t see the kings. Big Star sets off to search for them himself. Twinkle, feeling sorry for her earlier behaviour, secretly follows him. As Big Star searches high and low through the night sky, he begins to worry that he will never find the kings (LOOKING FOR THE KINGS).
Suddenly, Twinkle hears voices in the distance. She discovers three worried kings who are searching desperately for the guiding star. Twinkle rushes back to tell Big Star, and at last the kings can begin their journey to Bethlehem. Now forgiven for her mischief, Twinkle and Big Star together guide the kings to the stable where the baby lies (FOLLOW US).
Along the way they meet shepherds and angels who are also hurrying to see the newborn child. At last they arrive at the stable where Mary and Joseph are watching over baby Jesus. As the kings present their gifts, the sky fills with hundreds, thousands and millions of shining stars celebrating the wonderful moment (SHINING ON A STABLE).
Twinkle has never been so happy. She helped Big Star find the kings, and now all the stars have gathered to see the baby Jesus. Together they invite everyone to come and share the joy of that special night in Bethlehem (COME TO THE STABLE).
