Experience the Nativity story with the Three Wise Men as they recognise the star of a Newborn King, ready their camels and travel west across the desert to worship the Baby Boy. Cracking jokes aplenty to keep up their spirits, they journey first to Jerusalem and then on to the little town of Bethlehem. There, in a humble stable, surrounded by animals, shepherds and even some angels, they kneel before Jesus and offer gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

With six engaging Wise Men Nativity songs, a funny script and a host of wonderful characters, Wise Guys is a delightful retelling of the traditional Nativity story. Alongside the physical book, the digital download pack includes songs, backing tracks, lyric slides and the full book as a PDF. For an additional fee, you can purchase a CD featuring the full tracklist as an alternative or addition to the download pack. When you come to buy the performance licence for this primary school Nativity, you have the option to obtain an editable Word version of the full script, which you can easily adapt and adjust to suit your cast size.

Overview

Of all the elements of the Nativity story, the journey of the Magi is perhaps the most mysterious and intriguing. More commonly referred to as the Three Wise Men (or even the Three Kings), their story is mostly one of guesswork, with the gospels very short on any real detail (including how many Wise Men there actually were). Indeed, their story features only in the Gospel of Matthew, and much of this is devoted to their visit to King Herod.

We don’t really even know where they come from, and we certainly don’t know how they managed to follow a star all the way to Bethlehem. But their value to the story, their demonstration of the importance of Jesus’ birth and their recognition (through their gifts) of the impact His life would have on the world make them truly compelling characters.

Wise Guys is a brand-new Christmas Nativity about the Wise Men that invites us to see the story from their perspective and join them on their journey to visit the Newborn Messiah. Written by our founders, Tom Kirkham and Matthew Crossey, the musical is brimming with Three Wise Men Nativity songs that transport your school straight to the Middle East on that fateful night!

And it’s not just the Wise Men themselves who are excited, but an array of colourful characters including Mary, Joseph, shepherds, angels, attendants and all the animals. With the ensemble too, there’s a part for everyone. If you’re looking for song ideas for a Three Wise Men Christmas Nativity, Wise Guys is the perfect production to get everyone singing and dancing and introduce primary school students to one of the greatest stories ever told.

Synopsis

Narrators describe events from two thousand years ago in Nazareth, where a young woman called Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel and told she would have a very special Baby. The opening song introduces the Three Wise Men as they study the stars (WISE GUYS).

The Wise Men observe the night sky and recognise a particular star as the sign of the birth of a King. They saddle their camels and ready themselves for a journey west (LIGHTEN YOUR SUITCASE).

Caesar Augustus decrees that a census will be taken throughout the Roman Empire, and that everyone must return to their hometowns to be registered. The Wise Men meet a number of travellers as they continue west.

Mary and Joseph are also on the move and arrive in the little town of Bethlehem. Eventually, they manage to find a place to stay, and here, with ox and ass for company, Baby Jesus is born (IN A LOWLY STABLE).

In the fields above Bethlehem, angels visit some shepherds and tell them of the arrival of Baby Jesus (GOOD NEWS). The shepherds hurry to the stable, eager to see the Messiah for themselves.

The Wise Men reach Jerusalem, where King Herod requests a meeting and asks about the whereabouts of the Newborn King. They leave, vowing never to return (A STAR IS SHINING OVER BETHLEHEM).

Finally, they arrive in Bethlehem and make their way to the stable, where they offer gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to Baby Jesus (GOLD AND FRANKINCENSE AND MYRRH).
