Our 8 Most Engaging Seasonal Songs
Our 8 Most Engaging Seasonal Songs
There’s nothing like a song or two to add a bit of pizzazz to a school assembly, especially when there’s already excitement brewing around an upcoming celebration! There are so many events in the school calendar, from Easter to Christmas, and just as many opportunities to warm up those vocal chords with seasonal songs.
We’ve done our best to whittle down our favourite seasonal songs to a list of eight. The School Musicals Company has songs about all seasons - including harvest, Christmas, spring and summer - but these are our most engaging musical numbers to perform in assemblies throughout the year. Break out the backing tracks!
Songs About the Harvest Season
Harvest assembly songs are the perfect way to kick off the school year and celebrate the season. Singing is a fun and unique way to bring everyone together and give thanks for our food. Plus, as autumn is a special time in nature, let our lyrics inspire your students to observe and wonder at the changes happening all around them!
Sing Of The Harvest Journey
As well as an adaptable harvest festival script, Let’s Get Singing - Harvest includes many songs about the autumn season. One of our favourites is Sing Of The Harvest Journey, a gentle song that teaches children about what’s involved in the harvest and everything our food goes through before it arrives on our plates.
Pull On Your Wellington Boots
Pull On Your Wellington Boots is a timely reminder to put on a few extra layers and suitable shoes when venturing outdoors this time of year, since “you never know where the weather’s at”! This is a cheerful song for the season of temperamental temperatures, which encourages students to embrace the sun, the rain and, most importantly, the harvest.
Songs for the Christmas Season
‘Tis the season for festive songs! Music is a wonderful way to express the joy we feel in the run-up to Christmas. We all have our favourites, from classic carols to pop chart-toppers, but you can only listen to Wham! so many times. Why not try something different with our collection of original Christmas numbers?
Follow The Star
Focusing on the popular symbol of the nativity, Follow The Star is a joyous invitation to look up at the sky and imagine being there on the night Jesus was born. This seasonal song would pair perfectly with an assembly about the story of the nativity or the reasons we still celebrate Jesus’ birth all these years later.
Ding Dong Merrily
As exciting as it is to sing something new for Christmas, you can’t go wrong with a traditional piece of music. Ding Dong Merrily is part of our complete carol service, Glad Tidings!, which features seven songs for the Christmas season. The excitement in this festive song is infectious and always gets us in the mood for a bit of Christmas cake after a service!
Seasonal Songs For Spring
What better way to welcome fresh blooms than with music? Spring promises warm sunlight, new growth and optimism. Encourage your younger students to come out of hibernation with one of our delightful spring assembly songs, which will have them tapping their toes in no time.
Our Wonderful World
Celebrate the beauty and wonder of the natural world with Our Wonderful World by Niki Davies. As part of our Spring Songs download pack, this uplifting number invites children to marvel at the world as the plants and animals emerge from their winter slumber. After singing Our Wonderful World, you’re sure to hum this seasonal song for days to come!
Bugs And Butterflies
Also by Niki Davies, Bugs And Butterflies has a simple, catchy tune that KS1 and KS2 students will adore singing. This seasonal song zeroes in on one aspect of the changes that spring brings, encouraging children to take note of the interesting insects they may see outside, pollinating plants and buzzing here, there and everywhere!
Seasonal Summer Songs
Summertime is a melting pot of energy and excitement at school; the grown-up Year 6 students are on the cusp of leaving, teachers are preparing to welcome new classes, and everyone is buzzing about the six-week holiday. Hosting a seasonal summer song sing-along is a great way to unwind before the children head home for the summer.
Thank You For A Million Brilliant Things
As the last school term draws to a close, prompt your students to reflect on the things they’re grateful for. Thank You For A Million Brilliant Things by Matthew Crossey and Tom Kirkham gives thanks for the food we have to eat, the friends we get to meet, and the freedom to be ourselves. There’s no better seasonal song to accompany a happy summer send-off!
Great Day
Matthew Crossey and Tom Kirkham are back with another energetic song about having a positive mindset and preparing for a Great Day. The optimistic message in this seasonal song will undoubtedly stay with students long after they leave school for the summer, reminding them to try their very best every single day.
